October 16 My Presence on the WebSeptember 18 Eggleston's Grocery Egglestons Grocery by Roger Sadler For sale: $120.00 Buy it now at Artbreak! via Artbreak - Share and sell art online "Eggleston's Grocery" is named after a grocery in a photograph by William Eggleston. The facade of the grocery served as the motif of the abstract. I first painted the lines of the grocery front in yellow on a red field. I filled in the spaces with blue. Then I painted the entire painting red, still painting between the lines. Then I painted the right half of the painting yellow, leaving the lines yellow. I could have painted the lines red but that would have been symmetrical. The initial impression is of a canvas divided into red and yellow halves. But then one can see the yellow lines on the red side. And clearly on the yellow side one can see the lines of the motif of the grocery. This is an austere abstract painting of the minimal school. But I think it is beautiful. I like looking at the mottled colors and I like the trick where the lines on the yellow side weren't painted red as one would expect.
